calming before the storm

It seems as though some of you are going though a bit of a 'slump' period right now. Maybe you feel you are taking a step backwards? Yesterday a friend came over and we spent a few hours talking in the afternoon. She told me that as one of the tops in her marketplace of food, she is now working for a little catering company. My friend won top chef before she even graduated from her school. She was getting paid a lot of money about 5 months back and was being offered jobs every other day.

The market, politics and disheartenment have put her into just make enough to pay her rent. It was the first time I saw her having a problem smiling. Usually no matter what she smiles, but not today.

I guess I'm writing this because I never told her the following before she left, and figured it might come in useful to some of you:

As a hypnotherapist, some of the things I might have you do to figure out the place you are in, is re-evaluate your vision, work and focus. Some of the things you thought were important today, are not going to be important to you tomorrow. For me, at 24, I produced a movie that won Cannes and TIFF, just wanted to make a lot of money. Today, even with the publishing company in 9 countries, 3 best selling books in the US and a full speaking tour, I still do a lot of voluntary work for those who need help. I'm not longer motivated by money, but by helping those. Yes, money is important, but not AS important as it was.

Tiger Woods a few years ago, got a new coach. The coach changed Tiger's grip, adjusted his stance, and the end result? Tiger lost almost every match!! No kidding! However, working with the awkwardness of his newly learned techniques, he came back and demolished his opponents. It wasn't even close when he would play with them.

The idea of going backwards is not because you have failed, it's because you need to change your grip and re-evaluate. It's your chance to take some of the pressure off while you think. So to my friend who is thinking her time on top is done, she ended the conversation with the fact that she feels she would like to teach kids how to cook! A thought that would have never come to fruition had she not been taken off of her big comfy job. Going back a step is necessary to making a giant leap forward. Don't be afraid of it, enjoy it! It's the calming before the big storm of success and opportunities!

By the way, great posts on the www.makingitinhighheels.com wall. Have a great day!
